UK Regional Ambassador for Energy Security and Climate gave an interview to “Kapital”.

“The green transition is irreversible, driven by technical innovation and price expectations, as well as the ambition shown by the international community that signed the Paris Climate Agreement and the Glasgow Climate Pact. These documents oblige it to act urgently to tackle the severe consequences of climate change. We still have a long way to go to end the use of fossil fuels, but the Russian war in Ukraine has dramatically changed the political and economic calculations both in Europe and elsewhere. And reducing energy dependence has become an unavoidable priority. The Russian war definitely accelerated an existing trend, especially in Europe. Some countries that are more dependent on fossil fuels will find it more difficult to adapt. Constraints remain in the area of supply chains and technical challenges, but the direction is set. Countries need to keep warming, but it is a difficult balance. And decisions on urgent action must take into account the long-term effects. We must not squander the opportunity to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, that is, to keep the rise in global temperatures under control. Some producing countries see an opportunity and are using COP27 and the G20 meetings to try to reduce and even change green commitments. We must continue to resist this retreat and remain focused on implementing renewable energy measures.”
