The Burgas branch of Sofia University, and the Faculty of Economics, in partnership with the British Embassy in the Republic of Bulgaria, are organizing for the second consecutive year the international summer training Marine Renewable Energy Academy (MREA). The training will take place between 02.09 and 06.09.2024 in the congress center of the city of Burgas.

The Academy is aimed at young professionals, researchers, PhD students and experts from the state administration in the Black Sea region and aims to exchange knowledge on all aspects of planning and development of energy infrastructure and innovations in maritime spaces. Traditionally, trainers at the Academy are distinguished researchers and practitioners from Great Britain, Belgium, Denmark, as well as professors from the Faculty of Economics.

The topics that will be covered in this year’s training are:

  • Current status of offshore renewable energy sources in Europe and the Black Sea region;
  • Technological advances in offshore wind energy, synergies with offshore floating solar systems, zero-carbon hydrogen and ammonia fuels;
  • Minimizing the ecological footprint and applying an ecosystem approach in developing sustainable marine infrastructure;
  • Financial and regulatory aspects of offshore wind energy;
  • Special day dedicated to the presentation of research projects funded under the Horizon programme.

The fee of 360 euros incl. VAT, includes participation in the five days training, coffee breaks and lunches, and a certificate.
