Known in equal measure for its music, and the fabulous diversity of costumes, musical genres and abstract performances (!) the Eurovision Song Contest is an internationally televised song-writing competition, organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and featuring participants chosen by EBU member broadcasters representing their countries from across Europe and beyond.

The city of Liverpool, UK, is hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine, the winner in 2022. The Grand Final will take place on Saturday 13 May. As the winner of last year’s contest, ordinarily Eurovision would have hosted in Ukraine this year, but given Putin’s illegal invasion, the Ukrainian authorities agreed with the European Broadcasting Union that the BBC – as the broadcaster from the second-placed country in 2022  – should host the contest in the UK.

The British Embassy is supporting The Steps to host an event celebrating Ukraine’s unique spirit and culture on Saturday 13th May. The viewing party will celebrate the resilience of the Ukrainian people, Eurovision and our shared resolute support for Ukraine and its EuroAtlantic future.

The event will be held at The Steps, 12 Bratya Miladinovi, Sofia. Doors will open at 9.30pm and with the broadcast starting from 10pm. The cost of entry is 25 Leva and a portion of the proceeds will support three great Ukrainian charitable organisations: United24, Mother Ukraine and Insight. Come along and join the fun.
