Something about the Charity: The Mountain Rescue Service (MRS), part of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC), was established in 1933 and is the only structure in Bulgaria that provides assistance in the mountains.

MRS operates with more than 550 volunteer mountain rescuers, including 40 medics, 46 full-time rescuers, and over 30 seasonal rescuers. MRS provides assistance to over 2 300 persons and conducts over 160 rescue operations annually.

One of the Service’s most important instruments for rescuing people who are victims of avalanches is the RECCO® system. At the moment, the MRS has four detectors placed in strategic locations in the ski centres, near the areas with the most avalanche incidents. The contract expires in 2025, and they need our support to continue to provide quick and professional assistance to victims of avalanche accidents and to prevent putting the lives of the rescuers at risk.

IMPORTANT: In previous years they were oversubscribed, therefore to avoid having disappointed friends and contacts, please do book your places well in advance.

Thank you for your support and they do look forward seeing you on Friday, 12th April.
