Sustainability Leadership: Turning Ambition into Action

The British Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce (BBCC), in partnership with the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF), invites senior business leaders to an interactive conversation about sustainability leadership and what it takes to navigate an increasingly complex and uncertain business environment.

Sustainability is no longer only about meeting regulatory requirements or ESG reporting. It is increasingly about leadership: making informed choices amid uncertainty, balancing competing expectations, identifying opportunities for competitive advantage, and turning ambition into tangible action. This raises fundamental questions about the qualities leaders need today—from foresight and adaptability to sound judgement, collaboration, and the confidence to act.

This 120-minute session is designed as a practical, high-level exchange among decision-makers, bringing together the wider European perspective and the real-world realities of doing business in Bulgaria.

We will explore two central questions:

  • “How can leaders turn sustainability into competitive advantage – through foresight, adaptability, sound judgement and the confidence to act?”
  • “What does sustainability leadership look like in practice – and what does it take to turn ambition into action in the real world?”

Format & Conversation Starters

The session begins with Tsvetelina Kuzmanova setting the broader European context—exploring the intersection of sustainability, policy, finance, and business competitiveness, and framing what this changing landscape requires from modern business leaders.

We will then bring the discussion directly into the Bulgarian business reality with Gergana Stancheva. In a candid fireside chat, Gergana will share practical experiences and stories that reveal the human side of sustainability leadership: the choices, uncertainties, and challenges leaders face, the qualities needed to foster an impactful organisational culture, and what it takes to translate sustainable ambition into market reality.

An Interactive Exchange

The conversation will not stop at the stage. Participants will work on a practical case study in small groups, facilitated by Tsvetelina and Gergana. This interactive format creates space to challenge assumptions, exchange real-world perspectives, and work through shared leadership challenges alongside peer executives.

Our shared ambition is simple: to create a meaningful dialogue about the human story behind sustainability—making sustainability leadership tangible, understandable, and actionable.
